Who is Pedro Galvão?

Nice to meet you, I’m Pedro Galvão! I am in Pernambuco, but I’ve been living in São Paulo pretty much my whole life (those are brazilian states). 😁

I studied Translation and Interpretation in college with the goal of working as a translator, but along the way, I completely immersed myself in teaching English and ended up falling in love with it. That’s when my journey as an English teacher began.

I’ve always been fascinated by languages, and my ultimate goal has always been to become a polyglot. That’s why I’m currently studying Japanese and Spanish.

In 2017, I founded Seu Idioma, an online English school with the aim of helping people through my teaching method. I implemented it in traditional schools to refine and validate the methodology.

In 2018, I went on an exchange program to Malta to further improve my English and enhance the quality of my lessons through practice.

How did I learn English?

I have always been a very curious person, and that greatly influenced my ability to speak English today and my passion for language learning. Let me tell you how it all began!

Around the age of 9, I loved watching Multishow. During that time, it was quite common for them to air music videos, interviews, and other content (in Brazil) that was entirely in English. I was always curious about what people were saying, so I decided to start learning the language just to understand what they were talking about.

From that point on, I began studying using only a dictionary, learning word by word, and I continued in that rhythm for about 4-5 years. After all that time of self-learning, I started feeling stuck and unsure of how to progress in my studies because I wasn’t seeing any further improvement. That’s when I started insisting that my mom enroll me in a language school.

In the beginning of my studies, I was always the standout student in class (since I had started from scratch and already knew quite a bit). I would often help my classmates with activities, conversations, and so on. It was during this time that my interest in teaching English started to emerge.

I studied at that language school for 5 years. However, I began to feel uncomfortable because the classes seemed to always be the same, with repetitive content, making each lesson feel tiresome. That’s when I decided I would do an exchange program to further enhance my skills.

When I made the decision to do an exchange program, I started teaching English to friends in order to have more daily contact with the language and improve my ability to communicate with foreigners. It was a perfect fit, and I simply fell in love with teaching (and the short version is that I have been teaching English for 7 years now, haha).

In 2018, I did an exchange program to Malta, and I can confidently say it was the most incredible experience of my life. I had just turned 18 and had no idea how to navigate in another country (but everything turned out fine). When I returned, I decided to continue teaching English and make Seu Idioma a top-notch school where students could truly learn without having to go from place to place.
